4-Hexadecanol (12.29 g 0.051 mol) and p-Toluenesulfonyl chloride (12 g 0.063 mol) were dissolved Pyridine (100 ml) and stirred overnight at room temperature. Dichloromethane (400 ml) was added. Dichloromethane solution was then washed well with water, H2SO4 (3%), water, NaHCO3 (3%) and water, dried with anhydrous magnesium sulphate (10 g). After evaporation of the solvent 20 g of crude 4-Hexadecanesulfonyl chloride was obtained.
