To 5-bromomethylthiophene-2-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (14.9 mmol, 43.8 mmol) was added toluene (300 mL) and triphenylphosphine (14.1 g, 53.8 mmol). The mixture was heated to 70° C. overnight. The solvent was remove in vacuo to give (5-tert-Butoxycarbonyl-thiophen-2-ylmethyl)-triphenylphosphonium bromide
