tert-Butyl cis(±)-4-{[(benzyloxy)carbonyl]amino}-3-methoxypiperidine-1-carboxylate obtained in Example (40a) (800 mg, 2.2 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (40 mL). A 4 N hydrochloric acid/ethyl acetate solution (30 mL) was added, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for one hour. Concentration under reduced pressure gave 691 mg of the title compound as a colorless oily substance (100%).
