The procedure described in Example 1(a) was followed, using 32.8 g of 1-(4-fluorobenzyl)piperazine, 30.0 g of potassium hydroxide, 100 ml of dimethyl sulfoxide and 27.0 g of 1-bromo-3-chloropropane. Work-up, as described above, gave 35.2 g (61% of theory) of 1-(4-fluorobenzyl)-4-(3-chloropropyl) piperazine dihydrochloride as a white crystalline solid.
