Following a procedure similar to that described in Example 21, the latter (0.33 g, 0.0012 mol) was reacted with 0.3 g (0.0019 mol) of chloromethyl phenyl sulfide in 15 ml of toluene in the presence of 0.08 g (0.0025 mol) of tetrabutyl-ammonium bromide and the product, 2-phenylthiomethyl-4-phenylsaccharin (0.48 g, 100%), treated with sulfuryl chloride in MDC to give 0.36 g (95%) of 2-chloromethyl-4-phenyl-saccharin.
