To a solution containing meta-trifluoromethylphenol (1.60 g, 0.0024×4.1 mol), sodium hydride (0.29 g, (ca.60% in mineral oil), 0.0024×3.0 mol) and CuI (0.22 g, 0.0024×0.5 mol) in dimethylformamide, 2-chloro-4-methylmercapto-6-(3-thienylmethyloxy)pyridine (0.64 g, 0. 0024 mol) was added and the resultant solution was refluxed for about 6 hours.
