1,3-Di-n-butyl-8-bromo xanthine was prepared from 1,3-di-n-butyl-8-nitro xanthine (0.5 g, 0.0016 mol) and concentrated hydrobromic acid (8 ml) using the procedure as described in Example 15. The title product was obtained after recrystallisation from ethanol, yield 0.4 g (91%), m.pt. 178° C.
