Mode opératoire

A suspension of 4-chloro-7-methoxycinnoline hydrochloride (196 mg, 0.85 mmol) and 3-hydroxy-4-methylaniline (123 mg, 1 mmol) in 2-pentanol (5 ml) was heated at reflux for 2 hours. After cooling, the solid was filtered off, washed with isopropanol, ether and dried under vacuum to give 4-(3-hydroxy-4methylanilino)-7-methoxycinnoline as the hydrochloride salt (yellow solid, 215 mg, 80%).
