Mode opératoire

To a mixture of ethyl 2-hydroxybenzoate (2.4 ml, 16.38 mmol), K2CO3 (4.98 g), and DMF (30 ml) was added N-(3-chloropropyl)morpholine hydrochloride (3.93 g). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes, then was warmed on a steam bath overnight. The reaction mixture was cooled, filtered and stripped to afford a liquid which was partitioned between EtOAc (350 ml) and water. The organic layer was separated, washed with water (2×200 ml), dried over MgSO4 and stripped to afford ethyl 2-[3-(4-morpholinyl)propoxy]benzoate.
