Mode opératoire

To a solution of 1.41 g (5.0 mmol) of 4-(3-phthalimidopropyloxy)pyridine in 20 ml of methanol, 10 ml of hydrogen chloride-methanol was added. The solvent was distilled off and acetone was added to the residue. The resulting crystals were collected by filtration and washed with acetone to give 1.03 g of the desired compound (64.8% yield, colorless crystals), mp. 167°-169° C.
