Mode opératoire

A solution of 8.235 g of 3-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-benzeneacetic acid in 20 ml of thionyl chloride was heated to reflux and then excess thionyl chloride was removed under reduced pressure. The residue was dissolved in benzene and the solution was evaporated to dryness under reduced pressure. The residue was dissolved in 50ml of anhydrous benzene to obtain a solution of 3-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-benzeneacetic acid chloride which was used as is for the next step.
