Mode opératoire

To a stirred suspension of N'-t-butyl-N'-(3-toluoyl)hydrazine (0.7 g) in toluene (10 ml) and aqueous sodium hydroxide (12 drops of 50% aqueous sodium hydroxide) was added dropwise 2-phenyl-3-methyl-pentanoyl chloride (1.0 g). The reaction mixture was stirred overnight, diluted with hexanes and the solids filtered. The solids were washed with hexane and air dried.
