Mode opératoire

Through a suspension of urocanic acid (5.0 g) in methanol at 0° C. was bubbled HCl gas until the solution was saturated. The reaction was stirred for one hour, then concentrated in vacuo to dryness to provide the crude product 2 which was used in the next step without further purification.
