Sodium hydride (4.3 g, 0.11 mole of 60% mineral oil dispersion) was washed with hexane and suspended in 100 mL of N,N-dimethylformamide. To this suspension was added a solution of 25.4 g (0.10 mole) of 2-allyloxy-4-(benzyloxy)phenol in 100 mL of DMF. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes and then 22.8 g (0.10 mole) of (2R)-(−)-glycidyl tosylate was added.
