Procedimiento

1-Methyl-4-phenyl-4-piperidinecarbonyl chloride (0.49 mol) was added portionwise at room temperature to a stirring mixture of benzenemethanamine (0.49 mol) and triethyl amine (1.223 mol) in CH2Cl2 (2500 ml). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. K2CO3 (150 g) and H2O were added. The mixture was stirred and separated into its layers. The aqueous layer was extracted with CH2Cl2. The combined organic layer was dried (MgSO4), filtered and the solvent was evaporated, yielding 144 g of 1-methyl-4-phenyl-N-(phenylmethyl)-4-piperidinecarboxamide (95%) (interm. 12).
