Procedimiento

After adjusting the concentration of the maltose solution to 50%, to the concentrate was added Raney nickel catalyst in an amount of 10%, and the admixture was then heated to 90°-125° C. under stirring conditions, and hydrogenated at this temperature under a hydrogen pressure of 20-100 kg/cm2. After completion of the hydrogenation, the Raney nickel catalyst was removed, and the hydrogenated product was purified with activated carbon and ion exchangers according to conventional methods, obtaining a sugar alcohol mixture with a composition of sorbitol, 0.8%, maltitol, 92.2%, maltotriitol, 4.6%, and higher sugar alcohols including maltotetraitol, 2.4%, in the yield of about 92% against the starting starch material.
