Procedimiento

To a suspension of 2.27 g of prewashed 50% sodium hydride in 65 ml of dimethylformamide was added dropwise a solution of 11.78 g of 2-hexyl-4-tetradecylphenol in 65 ml of dimethylformamide. This mixture was heated for 1/2 hour, then 8.61 g of the mesylate of solketal was added. The mixture was heated at reflux for 3 hours, cooled, quenched carefully with water and extracted several times with ether. The ether extracts were combined, dried and the solvent evaporated, giving 15 g of the desired compound.
