Procedimiento

Under a dry nitrogen stream, 1 g of freshly scraped potassium and 1.28 grams of pure naphthalene (Aldrich) are introduced into a dry balloon-flask of 250 ml. 100 ml of tetrahydrofurane, dried under reflux on a benzophenone-sodium complex and distilled just prior to use, are then added. After stirring during 4 hours at room temperature, the naphthalene-potassium complex is formed at a concentration of 0.1 mol/liter.
