Procedimiento

1.2 30 g of malononitrile, 3.3 g of ammonium acetate and 4 ml of acetic acid are added to a solution of 55 g of ethyl 2-(isobutyryl)acetate (“AA”) in 210 ml of toluene, and the mixture is boiled at 130° for 1 hour on a water separator. Conventional work-up gives 41.0 g of ethyl 4,4-di-cyano-3-isopropylbut-3-enoate (“AB”), boiling point 95-99° at 0.4 mbar.
