Procedure

3,5-Diamino-1,2,4-triazole (1.50 g, 15.14 mmol) was dissolved in 5 ml of distilled water. Trifluoroacetic acid (1.12 ml, 15.14 mmol) was added via syringe at room temperature and the reaction was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. The water was removed in vacuo with heating to approximately 90° C. for 4 hours.
