Procedure

1,2,4-Triazole (2.0 g, 28.96 mmol) was dissolved in 5 ml of distilled water. Trifluoroacetic acid (2.15 ml, 3.30 g, 28.96 mmol) was added via syringe at room temperature and the reaction was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. The water was removed in vacuo with heating to approximately 90° C. for 4 hours.
