Procedure

Methyl 2-bromomethyl-5-[4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-3-furoate (intermediate 44, 0.20 g) was dissolved in toluene (3 ml) treated with triphenylphosphine (0.159 g) and heated to reflux for 1 hour. The reaction was allowed to cool and the white precipitate was collected by filtration, washed with fresh toluene to give the title compound as a white powder.
