Procedure

To a mixture prepared by adding to 3-thiophenemethanol (1.27 g, 0.0093×1.2 mol) successively tetrahydrofuran and sodium hydride (0.39 g, (ca.60% in mineral oil), 0.0093×1.05 mol), 2,6-dichloro-4-trifluoromethylpyridine (2.0 g, 0.0093 mol) was added, and the resultant solution was refluxed for about 1 hour.
