Procedure

Under N2 protection, 352 mg (1 mmol) p-methoxyphenyliodonium diacetate was dissolved in 1.5 mL of dry acetonitrile. The solution was combined with a solution of 190 mg (1 mmol) tosylic acid monohydrate in 1.5 mL of dry acetonitrile. After addition of 0.11 mL (1 mmol) p-iodoanisole, the mixture was allowed to react at room temperature for 2 hours. The solvent was then removed and the remaining solid was recrystallized from diethylether/dichloromethane to give 422 mg bis(p-methoxyphenyl)iodonium tosylate (82%).
