Procedure

7.2 g (0.05 mol) of Meldrum's acid and 8.3 g (0.05 mol) of veratraldehyde were weighed to 40 ml of the mixture of formic acid and triethylamine recovered by distillation in Example 3. The reaction was carried out and the final product was separated as described in Example 3. The volume of the mixture of formic acid and triethylamine recovered amounted to 28 ml.
