Procedure

8.2 g (41.4·10-3 mol) of N-(6-cyanohexanoyl)-glycine are dissolved in 100 ml of ethanol, and 60 ml of 1M sodium hydroxide solution and 800 mg of Raney nickel are added. The mixture is then stirred under a hydrogen atmosphere, at room temperature and under a pressure of 3.5·105Pa, for 8 hours. When the reaction has ended, 20 ml of 1M hydrochloric acid are added and the mixture is concentrated under reduced pressure to give 10.2 g of a white pasty solid, which contains the expected salt and sodium chloride and which can be used without further purification in the next step.
