Procedure
3-Methyl-3prop-2-ynyloxymethyl-1-oxa-4-aza-spiro[4.5]decane (1.83 g) in an aqueous solution of HCl (6N) (2.73 ml) were refluxed for 1 hr. The reaction mixture was cooled down to room temperature, diluted with water and extracted thrice with ethyl ether. The two layers were separated. The aqueous layer was concentrated under reduced pressure and further co-evaporated with toluene to yield 2-amino-2-methyl-3-prop-2-ynyloxy-propan-1-ol hydrochloric salt (1.205 g) as a white beige solid which was used in the next step without any further purification.
