Procedure

A solution of 1 g of 5-dimethylamino-N-(5-cyano-6-ethyl-2,1,3-benzoxadiazol-4-yl)-1-naphthalenesulfonamide and 0.7 g of potassium hydroxide in 20 ml of ethanol and 5 ml of water is bailed with stirring for 8 hours. The solvents are removed, the residue is dissolved in water and treated with hydrochloric acid and 5-dimethylamino-N-(5-carboxy-6-ethyl-2,1,3-benzoxadiazol-4-yl)-1-naphthalenesulfonamide is obtained.
