5-Methoxy-2-(4-pyridinylamino)benzoic acid was prepared from 4.9 g of 5-methoxyanthranilic acid and 4.4 g of 4-chloropyridine hydrochloride according to the procedure of Example 1, part (a). There was obtained 8.0 g of 5-methoxy-2-(4-pyridinylamino)benzoic acid which was recrystallized from water and used directly in the next reaction.
