Vorschrift

5,6-Dimethyl-pyridin-2,4-diol (6.5 g, 47 mmol) was stirred in 30 mL sulphuric acid and then cooled to 0° C. in an ice bath. Fuming nitric acid (10 mL) was added dropwise, and the mixture allowed to stir for 1 h after complete addition. The reaction mixture was poured onto crushed ice and the resulting yellow solid collected by filtration to give the title compound (3.9 g, 46%).
