(2R)-2-benzhydryl-3,6-dihydro-2H-pyran 27b (0.2 g, 0.79 mmol) was reacted with mCPBA (0.27 g, 70%, 1.58 mmol) (Procedure D) to yield the corresponding (1R, 4R, 6S)-4-benzhydryl-3,7-dioxa-bicyclo[4.1.0]-heptane 28c 0.11 g (52%, [α]D=(+)60.4, c=1, MeOH)) and (1S, 4R, 6R)-4-benzhydryl-3,7-dioxa-bicyclo[4.1.0]-heptane 28d 0.086 g (41%, [α]D=(+)78, c=1, MeOH). The 1HNMR and 13CNMR were identical for both (1S, 4S, 6R)-4-benzhydryl-3,7-dioxa-bicyclo[4.1.0]-heptane and (1R, 4S, 6S)-4-benzhydryl-3,7-dioxa-bicyclo[4.1.0]-heptane.
