Vorschrift

Hydrogenate a solution of 3 g of ethyl 6-acetyl-1,4-benzodioxin-2-carboxylate in 15 cm3 of acetic acid under hydrogen pressure (50 psi) in the presence of 0.750 g of 5% palladium on carbon. The crude product obtained by concentrating to dryness is purified by chromatography on a silica column (eluant: petroleum ether/diethyl ether, 70:30). Ethyl 6-ethyl-2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzodioxin-2-carboxylate is thereby obtained in a yield of 70%. ##STR29##
