1,3-Dibromobenzene was coupled with alkynol 20 following the procedure described in Example 10 to give 4-((3-bromophenyl)ethynyl)heptan-4-ol as a yellow liquid. Yield (4.2 g, 65%): 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 7.56-7.52 (m, 2H), 7.36 (dt, J=8.0, 1.2 Hz, 1H), 7.30 (t, J=8.0 Hz, 1H), 5.18 (s, 1H), 1.60-1.40 (m, 8H), 0.89 (t, J=7.2 Hz, 6H).
