Vorschrift

To 8.45 mmol of (6-phenoxy-2-pyridyl)methanol in 75 ml ether is added, at -10°, 12.7 mmol of phosphorus tribromide. The solution is refluxed for 1 hour, after which approximately 1 ml of phosphorus tribromide is added and refluxing is continued for 2 hours. The reaction mixture is cooled to RT and resulting solid is filtered and washed with ether to yield the hydrogen bromide salt of (6-phenoxy-2-pyridyl)methyl bromide.
