3.04 g. of 3-(2',4'-difluoro-4-biphenylyl)butyric acid ethyl ester is a mixture of 25 ml. of acetic acid and 25 ml. of 25% hydrochloric acid are heated under reflux for 90 minutes. The customary work up gives 3-(2',4'-difluoro-4-biphenylyl)butyric acid, m.p. 109°-110°.
