Vorschrift

10 g. of 3-(2',4'-difluoro-4-biphenylyl)-3-hydroxybutyric acid ethyl ester are dissolved in 50 ml. of ethanol and the solution is heated under reflux with 2 g. of KOH for 3 hours, evaporated and worked up in the customary manner to give 3-(2',4'-difluoro-4-biphenylyl)-3-hydroxybutyric acid, m.p. 121°-123°.
