Vorschrift

A solution of 4-bromo-6-hydroxy-2-methyl-2H-pyran-3(6H)-one (0.0025 mole) in 20 ml of 35% phosphoric acid was refluxed for about 5 hours. Maltol (34%) was isolated by the method of Example 1.
