Vorschrift

2-Aminomethyl-4-(1,1-dimethylpropyl)phenol hydrochloride (4.6 g., 0.02 mole) is dissolved in water (15 ml.) and a solution of iodine monochloride (3.28 g.) in 3N hydrochloric acid (10 ml.) is added. The mixture is kept for 3 hours and then cooled to -10° C. The solid that separates is crystallized from ethanol- 12N hydrochloric acid (1:10) to obtain 2-aminomethyl-4-(1,1-dimethylpropyl)-6-iodophenyl hydrochloride (4.15 g.), m.p. 203°-204° C. (dec.).
