Vorschrift

A solution of 2,3-dioxobutyric acid ethyl ester, (Z)-2-oxime (3 g), 1-naphthalenemethylamine (3.26 g) in acetonitrile (45 ml) is refluxed for 10 hr to give a white precipitate. The solid is then collected, washed with acetonitrile and dried to yield 5-methyl-2-naphthalen-1-yl-3H-imidazole-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester. LCMS 281.3 (M+1).
