Vorschrift

To a solution of 2-(phenylselenyl)ethanol (4.0 g, 20 mmol) [prepared according to the literature procedure: P. Rollin, V. V. Bencomo, P. Sinay, Synthesis, 13 (1984)] in CH2Cl2 (15 mL) was added paraformaldehyde (620 mg, 20 mmol). HCl gas was then bubbled into the solution at 5° C. for 2 hr. The solution was dried (MgSO4), and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure to give the title compound as a colorless oil in a quantitative yield.
