Vorschrift

Sodium borohydride (0.05 g) was added in portions over 2 minutes to a stirred suspension of 3-(benzo[b]thiophen-4-yl)-5,6-dihydroimidazo[2,1-b]thiazole-2-carboxaldehyde (0.36 g) in methanol (10 ml), then the mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 1.5 hours. The solvent was removed in vacuo then water (20 ml) and ethyl acetate (30 ml) were added and the mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 2 hours. The aqueous phase was separated and washed with ethyl acetate (30 ml), then the combined ethyl acetate solutions were dried (MgSO4) and the solvent was removed in vacuo at 60° C. to give [3-(benzo[b]thiophen-4-yl)-5,6-dihydroimidazo[2,1-b]thiazol-2-yl]methanol (0.315 g) as a cream solid, m.p. 145-149° C.
