After the catalyst solution obtained in Example 34-1 was cooled to from 0 to 5° C., 1.54 g (10.0 mmol, optical purity: 96.6% e.e.) of 1-citronellal ((S)-citronellal) was added dropwise. The resulting mixture was stirred overnight at from 0 to 5° C. After completion of the reaction, 2 mL of water was added to the reaction mixture. The organic layer was analyzed using gas chromatography. As a result, it was found that a substrate conversion ratio was 89.2%, an isopulegol selectivity was 88.1%, and a d-n-isopulegol:(the other isomers) ratio was 96.9:3.1.
