4-[4-(2,3-Dihydro-benzo[1,4]dioxin-6-yl)-thiazol-2-yl]-2′-nitro-biphenyl-2-carboxylic acid (205 mg, 71%) was prepared from 2′-nitro-4-thiocarbamoyl-biphenyl-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (which may be prepared as described for Intermediate 4) and 2-bromo-1-(2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzodioxin-6-yl)ethan-1-one (available from Alfa Aesar) using the procedure described for the preparation of Example 1. 1H NMR (300 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 8.53 (d, J=1.8 Hz, 2H), 8.24 (dd, J=8.0, 1.9 Hz, 1H), 8.11-8.16 (m, 2H), 7.78 (t, J=7.8 Hz, 1H), 7.52-7.68 (m, 3H), 7.43 (t, J=8.0 Hz, 2H), 6.95 (d, J=9.0 Hz, 1H), 4.29 (s, 4H).
