Vorschrift

The non-purified 2-ethyl-4-methyl-1-indanol was treated on a steam bath in 700 ml of toluene in the presence of 0.75 g of p-toluenesulfonic acid monohydrate for 2 hours. The solvent mixture was removed in vacuo, the residue was taken up in ether, and the mixture was washed with saturated NaHCO3 solution and NaCl solution and dried over MgSO4. The solvent was removed in vacuo and the residue was distilled (62° C./0.2 mmHg).
