Vorschrift

12.3 g (0.1 mol) of 1-methyl-2-cyanomethyl-2-imidazoline are initially introduced into 50 ml of glacial acetic acid. A solution of 7.8 g (0.1 mol) of NaNO2 in 20 ml of water is added dropwise at about 15°, with cooling. The mixture is stirred for 2 hours, cooled and filtered and the residue is washed with a little cold water. This yields 11 g (=73% of theory) of end product, which is recrystallised from methanol; melting point 216.5° C.
