Vorschrift

A mixture of 18.2 g. (0.10 mole) of 4'-fluoro-3-hydroxy-2-methylpropiophenone and 12 g. of phosphorous pentoxide in 100 ml. of xylene is refluxed for 1 hour. The reaction is cooled, water is added and the xylene layer is washed with aqueous sodium hydroxide and water. The organic layer is then concentrated in vacuo to give 5-fluoro-2-methyl-1-indanone.
