Reaction of 4-methyl-5-phenyl-1-(2-trimethylsilanyl-ethoxymethyl)-1H-imidazole (187 mg, 0.65 mmol), 2.5 M n-BuLi (338 uL, 0.84 mmol), and DMF (151 uL, 1.95 mmol) for 2 h at −40° C. gave the title compound (199 mg, 99%) as a yellow oil. 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ 0.00 (s, 9H), 0.94 (t, 2H, J=7.5 Hz), 2.54 (s, 3H), 3.61 (t, 2H, J=7.5 Hz), 5.88 (s, 2H), 7.33–7.38 (m, 1H), 7.46 (dd, 2H, J=7.5, 7.5 Hz), 7.68 (d, 2H, J=6.0 Hz), 9.82 (s, 1H).
