To a solution of 5-bromo-3-[1-(ethylsulfonyl)-4-piperidinyl]-1H-indole-7-carboxamide (909 mg, 2.2 mmol) in dioxane (7.5 mL) and H2O (2.5 mL) was added 4-(4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolan-2-yl)-2-thiophenecarbaldehyde (1.57 g, 6.6 mmol), potassium carbonate (1.82 g, 13.2 mmol), and tetrakis(triphenylphospine)palladium (0) (30 mg, 0.22 mmol). The reaction was heated in the microwave at 150° C. for 20 min. The mixture was then concentrated to dryness. EtOAc (50 mL) was added to the residue and washed with brine. The precipitate which formed between the water and organic layer was filtered and collected as a brown solid to give 874 mg of the title compound (89%).
