الإجراء التجريبي

Naphthalene was polymerized at a temperature of from 200° to 300° C. in the presence of a HF·BF3 catalyst. After the reaction, the catalyst was recovered in a gas state, and a low boiling point component was removed to obtain a pitch. The optically anisotropic phase was 2 volume % as observed under a polarization microscope, the softening point was 176° C., the quinoline-insoluble content was 1.6% by weight, and the toluene-insoluble content was 34% by weight.
