الإجراء التجريبي

A round-bottom flask was charged with 3-ethyl 5-methyl 2′-cyano-4′-methylbiphenyl-3,5-dicarboxylate (0.12 g, 0.33 mmol), 1,4-dioxane (10 mL), and a solution of lithium hydroxide (9 mg, 0.4 mmol) in water (2 mL). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 h. The volatiles were removed under reduced pressure and the residue was acidified with 1 N HCl, and extracted with CH2Cl2. The separated organic phase was dried and concentrated. The residue was purified via flash chromatography to afford the desired product as a white solid.
